Automation vs Intelligence

Written by Kevin Burke | Jun 18, '25

Automation and AI often get lumped together—but they’re not the same. And mistaking one for the other can cost you.

A lot of businesses think they’ve implemented AI—but really, they’ve just set up automation.
Automation follows rules.
“If this happens, do that.” Simple. Done.

Great for repetitive tasks—but that’s it.
Intelligence is different.
It makes decisions.
It understands context, reasons through options, and improves over time.

For example:
A system that sends emails every Tuesday at 3PM?
That’s automation.

One that tracks when leads engage, what they click, how they respond— then messages them at the optimal time?
That’s intelligence.

Automation does more.

Intelligence creates greater impact.

Doing things faster isn’t enough anymore.

Real growth comes from systems that think, not just do.
